Oceanic Oats

These magical purple and blue oats don’t just look beautiful, they’re also a great way to save time in the AM and get the nutrition you deserve to start off your day; whether it be running out the door for work or for a fun filled day of play.

Did you know that buckwheat is not related to wheat at all?! It is a fruit seed, not a grain and is closely related to the rhubarb plant and it is totally gluten-free! As well, a complete plant-based protein. This seed is a nutritional powerhouse and super satiating because it is high in fibre.

This breakfast treat is well balanced with an array of macro and micronutrients your body needs daily to feel energized as well to stay healthy and strong. In addition, it is boosted with our PureFood B nutritional powder to provide you with the essential B-vitamins you need from food which support energy production, brain health and well… B-Vitamins are needed in pretty much all body functions!

Love the ocean just as much as you love oatmeal? You’ll want to check out our ocean sustainability article.

Instructions
  1. Night before instructions: Soak buckwheat groats in filtered water overnight.
  2. Night before instructions: In a separate bowl, whisk together chia seeds, banana, cinnamon, ginger and mylk.
  3. Night before instructions: If you do not have fresh fruit available, use frozen and thaw overnight.
  4. In the morning, rinse buckwheat groats really well. When soaked, it will develop a bit of a gelatinous film which you’ll want to rinse off.
  5. Heat up blueberries in a small pot, covered, on medium heat with a 1 tbsp of filtered water for about 5 minutes to make a compote.
  6. Add buckwheat to the chia mylk mix, sprinkle on one scoop of PureFood B. Mix well with whisk. Add to a mason jar or tupperware to go.
  7. Top with blueberry compote.
  8. Top with sunflower and hemp seeds, cacao nibs, fruit and drizzle maple syrup. (If you want to get fancy, you can create layers by alternating buckwheat chia mix with seed, nibs and fruit.)
