Between sunsets on October 31 to November 1 is traditionally celebrated as Samhain, the Gaelic festival marking the end of a harvest season and the beginning of winter. This is the halfway point between autumn equinox and the winter solstice. So, in honor of the darkest days during this time of year, let’s warm you up with a nourishing golden milk smoothie that will make you feel like you are drinking in and absorbing the golden sun!
This golden milk smoothie recipe has beautiful butternut squash in it, which is typically harvested in the fall but planted back in the spring. So, this means it’s had ample time to soak up the sweet sunshine to grow and be ready for you to enjoy in the fall and winter. I’d like to think, it holds a good quality of the golden sun’s energy in its cells to help nourish us during the darkest days besides all the other beautiful macro and micro nutrients it contains.
In addition, there is many warming spices in this recipe which are traditionally used in golden milk to stoke your inner fire besides the powerhouse root vegetable turmeric. Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and memory-enhancing root, just to name a few of its health benefits.1 This is mostly due in part to the active chemical in turmeric called curcumin. You’ll notice there is a dash of black pepper suggested in this recipe, the reason for this is turmeric (curcumin), is known to have better bioavailability (absorption) because black pepper contains the active chemical called piperine that has been proven to support the absorption of curcumin in the body from turmeric.2
We’ve also added our PureFood A to Z foundational nutritional booster and PureFood B and C to this smoothie. These three in combination will help you meet and exceed the essential vitamins and minerals with additional antioxidants, phytonutrients, fibre, etc that naturally come in organic whole foods to support your overall health and energy. Plus our new formula of PureFood A to Z contains 120% of your daily Vitamin D; which is referred to as the ‘sunshine vitamin’ that helps you feel more energized, alert and happy!
